What have you done?
Stepped the handlebars down from 1” to 7/8” to accept a super pratic throttle, cut several things off of the frame, fabbed up the pegs, built wheels, rebuilt carb, modified oil tank, made and polished a hand shift lever, polished foot controls, mounted fender, bent up most of a sissy bar, assembled a custom front end with narrowed and ribbed trees with 41mm tubes and Barney’s style lowers, mounted the gas tank, custom throttle cable.
What do you have left to do?
Finish the sissy bar, build an exhaust, wire it, finish plumbing it, trim the lower part of the fender, work out the right headlight set up, chrome, paint and test and tune.
Any problems so far?
I’ve probably had the most issues sourcing usually easy to find parts or rare parts, like the tires I want to run or jets for a two throat carb. Other than that, I’ve messed up several welds but stuck with it until I got it right. I’m not a fabricator by day but it’s been so much fun learning.
Favorite part of the bike so far?
Hard to say as I chose all the parts I love purposefully. I love the two throat carb I’m running, the cal products trans but I’d have to say what I love the most is the front end. Custom narrowed and ribbed trees from my friend Jerimiah paired with 41mm tubes and Barney’s lowers. Looks so trick.
Favorite part of the competition?
The best part of this competition has been seeing my bike come to life in what seems like warp speed compared to the pace I usually work. The end goal and timeline has pushed me to really get shit done. I’ve also appreciated the comradery among all those competing and following their builds.
Shout outs:
I guess first of all Biltwell for putting this on! I’d also like to give a shout out to my wife because without her pushing me to work on it and understanding all the crazy late nights I wouldn’t have made it this far. Jason, Daril and Thomas for making me enter. Also my Denton boys that have come over to make fun of me, help me and give me beer. To Jerimiah at Conflict Machine for all the machine work help and answering my dumb questions. The support I’ve gotten from the NC boys, and last but not least, to anyone that’s sent me a message and told me they liked what I was doing, hated what I was doing or talked shit on how I was doing it.
